I agree. Even my 25 cheap Asus soundcard is far better than onboard. I can actually hear things in Call of Duty that I never heard with onbord sound.

Whats the difference between the D2X and the Asus Xonar Essence STX in a nutshell?...

the price difference is only $15AUD more for the STX...

Hmm based on what i read out, the Essence STX is made for stereo/headphone uses (i use 99% headphones), so i am gonna get the Essence STX

I would be very interested if you could let us know how you get on. If it is not to much trouble to compare the STX with onboard for gaming. It is just that I have been thinking of getting that same soundcard myself. I mostly game though and don't really listen to music on my PC.

Very sweet looking build! I think you also have a very good pic for a PSU. I'm currently idling at 95W usage with a 2600K stock, and everything else in my sig. (Read from my battery backup)

I used to think the same way, but after getting a nice one I was completely wrong.

+1

FYI Asus Xonar's FTW IMO

I got the HDAV1.3 DeLuxe 'cos I needed digital out through HDMI plus analogue outs. Superb card and software. TrueHD is awesome.

The STX is only stereo output made specifically for headphones. It has an amp so you can drive ones with high ohms.

Get the STX if you only use stereo.

Install drivers, play game. That's how simple it is.
