Default Re: vdpau slowness with 260.19.06

i got no changes with the configuration changes above.
-started the computer from cold
-opened nvidia control panel and checked the options above (they were already set from before)
-set cpu and gpu to max performance
-tried qvdpautest
the results are sorta the same with 15fps for h264 1080p

as a side note since this series of drivers I always get the screen to go in dpms just after login (i've to press a button to make it come back)

Default Re: vdpau slowness with 260.19.06

I have tried the .29 drivers with my GTS 250 , but problems still exists, sometimes when I run qvdpautest is runs ok , but after awhile it slows down again and then it stays like that.
Changing Powermizer has almost no impact. sometimes adaptive mode even gives me 1 fps more...
Disabling hardware scaling no impact.
Disabling compiz no difference

I get the first time after a new driver install ( qvdpautest 0.5.1):
- H264 DECODING (1920x1080): 44 frames/s
2nd, or sometimes after 3rd run:
- H264 DECODING (1920x1080): 20 frames/s

As a temp resolution , I wanted to check what would happen if I overclock my card (gpu@675 Mhz and memory @1000 Mhz ) a bit:
- gpu clock @ 724 , mem clock @ 1020 :
H264 DECODING (1920x1080): 22 frames/s
- gpu clock @ 740 , mem clock @ 1020 :
H264 DECODING (1920x1080): 36 frames/s

An 16Mhz extra, gives me an extra 14 fps , pretty strange results.

I just tried the new beta 270.18 and am glad to report that for my 8400M GS the decoding speed is up again, i.e. similar to that of 256.53 driver. This never happened for the 260 series. Here are the numbers

Thanks to make me notice the driver but still no change here, actually it worsened again (did you try again after a reboot? I got one single time during 260 the decoding right but then never got it any more). Updated also the bug report.

Here I am, with a similar issue.

270.18 more or less made decoding acceptable. However, deinterlacing is really no there yet!

I get a very bad response from the interface when the mixers tests are being run, including the mouse cursor, with qvdpautest and Xorg at or close to 100% CPU usage.

HP 8740w laptop, Quadro 5000M, 16 GB RAM, Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64, up-to-date with security, updates and backports, x-swat-x-updates ppa

qvdpautest says:

Code:

I have attached a debug tool output and the output of VDPAU debug and trace when running qvdpautrace.

One time qvdpautest could not run any of the mixer. I was not capturing anything at this moment, of course...

yes i've the same issue with the mixers i didn't mention it as it's not as striking as the issue of being unable to decode video at all (in an usable way) but definitely that thing has worsened since I’ve reported this issue the first time

I would suggest that you take a look at this thread:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=159169

The issue may not be VDPAU related, but in fact created by PowerMizer not acting as expected.

At least this is what it looks like for me.

unfortunately in both cases on 8600MGT cards the performance level is 2 so it's at the maximum clock (taken from granted the values returned aren't buggy but i get fluid games so i think they are right)

So I tried a new effort with the 270.18 beta drivers, ofcourse as expected the result was bad similar to previous experiences :
- H264 DECODING (1920x1080): 20 frames/s

but I was thinking what if I overclock my gtx 250 , after several tests , even if I changed the clock of the 3d mode a couple of mhz.

This is the result I got :
- H264 DECODING (1920x1080): 34 frames/s

even with powermizer set at adaptive.
Ok still not the +40 frames/s I got with the 256.53 drivers, but definitely usuable now with for example xbmc. Tomorrow I am gonna try my kick ass scene , to verify if there is still frame skipping
