Wow, another thread with 50% flame-material

Thanks for the pertinent information to the rest of the lads

Muppet, any indication of time-frame? Not to say my 580 is long in the tooth, but still good to know

Although ignored, I have this to say to you:
1. Your logic in this thread has been flawed from the start. You used benchmarks on 580s with less VRAM in situations where VRAM might be a factor as evidence of better scaling. Exceeding framebuffer will lower averages. Had Hardware Heaven done those benches with the 3GB 580s I was recommending, the 6970s would have lost them all.

2. Value has components other than "similar framerates". Last night I was playing Just Cause 2 at 5760X1080 in 3d, with the CUDA enhanced water. The night before I was playing Mafia 2 at 57X10 in 3d with the PhysX effects. NVIDIA gives their users the ability to see the games with a more realistic look and feel.
I was doing this on my 2 X 2GB GTX560Ti set that cost me only $560.. That is value. If I spent $560 on some ATi cards, no 3d, no PhysX.
I have a dozen games that use Physx, and I really enjoyed Crysotasis, BatmanAA, MafiaII, and Metro2033. My son would add Mirror's Edge to that list. I enjoy almost EVERY game in 3d, and I have many optimized for it.

In games that are “3D Vision-ready,” the experience is as profound as going from a 2D VGA card to a 3D graphics accelerator. I BS you not. If this technology didn’t have such a steep barrier to entry in its cost, I can guarantee you’d be all over it.
3. As the guy buying the cards noted, drivers that work without issue adds value as well. NVIDIA simply has better developer relations and most popular new games ship with SLi profiles and NVIDIA already having worked on compatibility with the developer. This is a big difference from ATi's reactive approach launching driver profiles after the gameshave been launched, sometimes weeks later. The fact they lock down the drivers and users can't create their own profiles compounds this.

Your definition of value is too narrow. ATi cards costs less because they offer less. Even if performance was exactly equal, NVIDIA cards would be the better buy for reasons I outlined above.

This isn't "trolling" -these are facts.

I wouldn't count on this, NP.

AMD definitely has the lower-power architecture, so if they stay within the 300-watt limit, AMD should technically be the winner. However, I'm sure Nvidia has a few tricks to increase their performance this time around, so I would venture that it will be very close.

Dude, it's been a long time since we've seen a dual-chip solution. WE NEED MOAR STUFFZ!!!!

You're lucky Palit and Gainward decided to make some 3GB cards. Being in the top .00001% for display needs only has one disadvantage- most companies aren't thinking "How do I break into that tiny niche market?"".

Makes card buying "choices" pretty easy though-
"What is the fastest with most VRAM?"

I thought pretty hard about buying two more 3007WFP-HCs when I upgraded from 5040X1050 to 5760X 1080, but I couldn't pull the trigger on it due to my love for the 3d.

Each solution would definitely be my two top choices, hands down.

That's what I would guess too. Still, it's going to be very powerful, even with ONLY 1.5GB VRAM per GPU.

It should be noted that it is rumored to be 1.5GB per GPU and that:

A. No single monitor has use of more than 1.5GB of VRAM
B. Even 99.99% of 3 monitors sets don't need more than 1.5GB VRAM

http://hardocp.com/article/2011/01/1...0_sli_review/1

At 5760X12, the GTX580 SLi with 1.5GB of VRAM was fastest at four of the five games tested, and the only difference at the one game it lost was 4X AA vs 8X AA.

So, with the GTX590 vs Antilles question it may come to "Do you want the card that wins 80% of the time andmakes you turn down AA on the other 20%, or do you want the card that loses 80% of the time and you get 8X AA instead of 4X the other 20%?

It seems you have a hard time reading graphs.

6970 wins.

6970 Wins again...

and again...

oh shi it lost one.

another loss for the 6970

Sorry but I like apples to apples comparisons.

Roadhog, just set him to your ignore list. That's what I did. If we all just ignore him, he won't have a reason to stay. He can go spout his cabbage on some other forum. Have you noticed that he only trolls THIS section of the nvnews forums? Wonder why....

Yea, and graphs don't lie, especially on professional review sites. 2 6970's in crossfire is the better solution on super high resolutions once money becomes a factor.

And don't bother responding to this post Mr. Rollo. I won't see it.

Nah, I enjoy reading things posted by stupid people.

His brain can't comprehend that two companies have cards that trade blows in benchmarks when in crossfire and sli.
