This is still an issue with Firefox 4.0 beta 10, which nearly represents the finished product, so I don't think it will change within the next few weeks. I simply don't believe this! It would be such a beautiful browser without all these Linux issues.
Does anybody have a smooth experience on pages like https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozill...y/+archive/ppa ?
I think I will have to continue to use Chromium...

Smooth as a baby's bottom here. GTX-580, FF 3.6.13, openSUSE 11.3, 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 GNU/Linux, 270.18 drivers.

This bug should be reported to Firefox Linux developers - Opera 11.00 and Google Chrome 8 stable for Linux render/scroll this page ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...5?comments=all ) instantaneously - there is no slow down of any kind.

This bug has nothing to do with processes/IO schedulers - here I have 4GB of RAM and no swap at all - so everything runs in the RAM.

I've just posted a bug report here.

Thanks for submitting a bug report but i thought this problem is only when using the nvidia driver, shouldnt that be mentioned in the bug report ?

PS. My post above stating the problem is gone was not true (i must have tested it in some bad way).

Well okay, I think GTX-580 is a different world...

I also thought this is only a problem when combining Nvidia driver + Firefox and some webpages. Hasn't it been reported to firefox developers a long time ago? At least there are a lot of Ubuntu Launchpad bug reports about this...

Works fine as well on systems running the same os and driver version (FF 3.6.13, openSUSE 11.3, 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT x86_64 GNU/Linux, 270.18 drivers) with 8800GT, GTX-275 and 8200 IGP as well.

I have not seen other webpages exhibiting this behaviour.

Observed on: debian squeeze, 19*.* and Ubuntu 10.4, 195.*, 256.*.

My laptop with intel graphics doesn't do this, so I assume it's something nvidia driver related.

Edit: attached bug-report
I am having similar problems. On my laptop, which has a GeForce Go 7900 GS, everything is slow, including webpage scrolling. On my desktop, which has a GeForce GTS 250, I have only occasional lag. It occurs randomly when I scroll a webpage, but then it disappears as abruptly as it appeared.

Turning off compositing helps reduce the issue on my laptop, but I still notice lag. Both systems are running KDE. My desktop has KDE 4.6.0 and my laptop has KDE 4.5.5. I tried switching to the Nouveau driver on my laptop and it eliminated the lag issues, but switching to it introduced power management and virtual terminal issues, so I was forced to switch back.
