Android Apps

Since I have a new Android phone on the way. Looking what apps are available.

1) what GPS apps do you recommend? something that actually has a full map of the country, and doesn't require data connection

2) games? Angry Birds is fun, anything else?

GPS: CoPilot Live. It was $5 for the US maps. And $20 for the US&Canada Maps.

how would you rate copolit map coverage? are map upgrades free? this is fully offline (or can be offline)

My dad has had no problems. Upgrades are free. And as far as I know its fully offline. There are "live" services available as an extra cost which require data. My dad closes his internet coverage, so that he doesn't use the 200mb quickly, and opens it when he needs to. And he has it off as well as wifi when he drives, so it does not require data. Plus you download the maps straight from the app. Just set wifi on, and leave it overnight, its like 1GB for the US only maps.

Also, the US&Canada might be $25 but when you download the app, and purchase the US&Canada from the in app, it comes up to $10 more, and the app costs $5. So its $15. That makes no sense, but take a look at the prices, its funky. I might be wrong. But the US maps are $5

What about Google Navigation? It's never been wrong once.

I don't play games on my Droid but Angry Birds is fun.

Google Navigation has recently become far more robust offline.

Also, Angry Birds is the only decent game on the platform. (Not complete hyperbole)

I thought google maps navigation needed an internet connection almost all the time. It can cache, but you have to go over it a couple times, right?

Why? It's not like your phone is ALWAYS offline.

what if i'm driving thought a part of Wisconsin where there is no signal, trusing google maps to have that particular part of map pre-loaded or cached will not always be reliable.

GPS that needs data connection for maps is not very useful.
