Just FYI, I believe we have repro'd a bug that causes slow decode performance on some GPUs. The bug is not yet root-caused or fixed though.

FWIW, here are some results for me.
i get a lot of video jumps, and rather visible scan lines often. in xbmc and xine. though xbmc seems to work much better. this is on ubuntu 10.10 Code:

Do you use PulseAudio audio output?
It worked great at Ubuntu 9.10 for me and with ALSA backported from Ubuntu 10.04 I had HDMI audio to. Then I've installed 10.04 - no HDMI audio at all and jumpy playback. Then installed 10.10 - no HDMI audio at all and jumpy playback. I've kicked out rtkit package, disabled virtual PulseAudio device for simultaneous playback (used it all the time with 9.10) and changed audio output from PulseAudio to ALSA and I have smooth playback now.

Are you saying that 69fps 1080 decode capability is to slow to playback smoothly 30fps 1080 actual movie?
My ION box is at least 2 times slower in VDPAU test than your and still I have smooth playback. Your box is fast enough to have mixer temporal spatial + ivtc at any Bluray material and it is not enough? I know, maybe with older drivers I twas like 20% faster but still, it is not a major issue for jumpy playback. Did you tried to omit PulseAudio for playback? I don't say to kick out PulseAudio because Ubuntu is too much integrated with it, but playing back with ALSA plugin in PulseAudio solved my jumpy playback problem.

Are you sure that your xine binary have VDAPU decoding capability?
Did you tried newest SVN MPlayer for satellite stream dumping? Just a tough as I've never had satellite receiver and as that never seek answers for that questions. As a mater of thumb, satellite streams are not too complicated and easy to decode because it needs to be done by cheap hardware decoders that is not as elaborate as software decoders and don't understands most of the high quality encoding/decoding options. So it shouldn't be a problem to decode this smoothly with VDAPU capable software. Unless there is a bug in a software. I must say that I have no problem right now with 1080 material that had been re-encoded from satellite stream and encoded with more complicated options that original stream itself so... if XBMC works fine for you that means you must check your xine copy. Did you compiled it yourself with VDPAU patch or you use Ubuntu supplied one. If the later... I didn't know that it have VDPAU support.

Make sur you selected a deinterlace method that your GPU can handle (yours is not able to run temporal_spatial on 1080 material)
