Awesome choice... pretty much the GSM version of an HTC EVO with a nice processor die-shrink (more power effecient) and slightly newer software. A very very solid choice.

The phone just landed. Very impressed so far. The screen, despite not being AMOLED, is superb. Awesome res and plenty of contrast. It doesn't scroll as smoothly as the 3GS but its not an issue. Froyo will take some getting used to but thats half the fun

Thanks for the input, peeps!

Revs, look at HTC and Motorola phones, never had issues with either, plus they are good with updates.

My next phone will be Motorola Atrix, not sure if there is UK carrier for it.

I've not paid any attention to Motorola for years. I'm sure they're better now, but back in the day they were bloody awful. Saying that, so were Samsung.

It seems despite my 3GS being 18 months old I'll still be able to get over 200 on fleeBay, which is nice

Nice one. I was gonna get a HD but they are exclusive to Vodafine here and Voda sucks the big one right now. Very poor coverage and capacity. I ended up with an iPhone 4. Out of the Droids I could get the iPhone was unfortunately the only one that did suited, Gaxaly S had hardware and lower build quality. regular Desire had an old screen and all were too big. Maybe next time for droid? ::

Well, I've had a good few hours playing with teh phone last night and the more I get used to it and get things how I want, the more I like it. It's like moving in to a new home. You know everything's here somewhere, you just need to find it and put it where you want

The OS is better than I'd been expecting. Very well thought out and perdy. Everything's nicely customisable, the widgets are great and browsing is a whole new experience with the higher res. screen. The only real drawback that I've found so far is the battery life. After a few hours of messing it was down to 30%, but to be fair, with that huuuuge bright screen it is to be expected.

Other bits; the camera is superb for it's size, the built-in speaker is really poo, but the sound quality through my headphones is superb. It can play Flash!! and unlike my 3GS it can actually use the 3G network without the 'No Service' bullsh.

Great phone!

Glad you like it. Android really is a lot better than what most haters make it out to be in terms of how "ugly" it is. For a real techie it's treat being able to customize something to the extent that it allows.

As far as battery life I can expect ~10 hours of moderate use, 24 hours of never touching the thing, or 4 hours of wifi teather + gps + playing pandora (I actually did this a few times on ski-trips.... 3 hour car rides while my sister and roomate are using the connection to tether, using GPS, and we had it plugged into my car for music).

I've not tried it yet, but I'm pretty sure (like with the 3GS) that if you turn off wifi and 3G, the battery will last a good few days. The 3GS would last about 5-6 days if I did this and just used it for calls (no playing with it).

BTW, the sensors on this thing are in a totally different league to the 3GS. Very fast and accurate, no having to look a pillock while you're stood their waving the phone in a figure 8 motion
