Hi folks,
Looking to get a new monitor for the purpose of having a nice 120hz refresh rate. I hate tearing, and with VSync enabled I sometimes run into problems where the framerate slips over 60fps even with VSync on which gives a strange hitching. Most of the time I just use a frame limiter command and it fixes it, but tbh I want 120hz of goodness like the CRT days. I know alot of these panels are geared towards 3D now, I have zero interest in that. Just want a nice 120hz screen. Any suggestions? Was looking at this one 23" Asus VG236HE or GD245HQ. Obviously geared towards 3D, but will it allow me to just use it as a 120Hz panel?

I just bought the LG W2363D 120Hz monitor. It has absolutely no imput lag. It makes it perfect for FPS and the likes. I highly recommend it. Much nicer than my Samsung RZ2233

Most screen that can do 120Hz refresh will be hyped as "3D ready"
Don't worry about it. This is one of the advantage of 120Hz and the most visible one. You do not have to use it as 3D to enjoy them though.

Bought the Asus. Was looking at a new BenQ one, but been some complaints of weird rows of pixels at the side and bottom if you enable 120hz for 2D. Shame.

What a great monitor this is. How on earth did I cope without 120hz before.

I wouldn't recommend Asus VG236H it has poor black levels which ruins dark games and scenes
The display was equally unable to separate very dark grays from absolute black. As a result, we had a difficult time seeing what was happening in the Blu-ray version of Watchmen’s opening fight sequence. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/rev...display_review the same with the xl2410t Shadow detailing on BenQ XL2410T is fair but not great. The 3-4 darkest grey tones in the sRGB preset are crushed and reproduced as black. This means that you. lose some details in dark colors in games and movies. http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.p...&id=1291718728 you also cannot adjust the backlight on the xl2410t. So I recommend only the LG w2363d. I did try it a weekend and was amazed by the fluid 120hz/fps motion but I had a hard time seeing what was on the top shelves when i was out looting in fallout 3. I think my sample had very poor vertical viewing angle. http://jooh.no/web/lg_w2363d_top_half_too_dark.jpg On W2363D I can distinguish almost all shadow of dark grey except for the 1-2 darkest shades. This is a good shadow detail results and W2363D maintains a lot of detailing in dark scenes in games and movies. This is positive. http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.p...&id=1280136712 |

Quite an old thread now. Did get the Asus, and have been more than happy with it. Found the black levels to actually be pretty decent, but that wasn't the case out of the box. Had to tinker with settings a fair bit to get it right.
