Updating to 10.5.8 now.

Pretty good for a laptop. It seems the power settings work too which is great. I need to get a new WiFi card so I can use my wireless, otherwise the laptop is worthless imo. I will probably buy a card like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-Broadcom-BCM4...item27b926f9bd

It should work natively with OSX86 and be recognized as an Airport card.

The only other thing that isn't working quite right is the ACPI, as it can't successfully pass the command to tell the machine to restart/shut down.

Wow it just updated directly from Apple without patching. Never had that happen before.

EDIT:

All updates applied without patching.

Guys I has a Dell Studio 15 with ATI card. Make OSX work on it starting right now.

Seriously has anyone had any luck with a Mobility 4500/5100HD? I'm pretty sure I'm out of luck but it would be cool to mess around with.

Just bought a Dell 1505 BCM4321 Wireless N mini PCIe card. It's the same chipset used by Airport, so it should work out of the box (keyword: should). It only cost me $22 (shipped). I will let you all know how it works out when it arrives.

So my wireless card should be here towards the end of the week. I am going to attempt to update it to Snow Leopard in the meantime, though. I am sure I will fail at least once and be forced to restart the whole process. I will let you all know how it goes.

it all depends what PCI\VEN_XXXX&DEV_XXXXXX dell is using on the card. mac might not pick it up, but a modded driver will

Yes, you can edit the driver to recognize the device as long as the chipset is supported, which it is. There are also many OSX86 drivers out there for BCM43xx wireless chipsets. So I should be able to get it going via either method.

I got 10.6.0 installed on my laptop using the 10A432 (i.e. first) Snow Leopard release. For some reason, the kext's I use with my laptop don't want to play nicely with 10.6.3, hence why my retail disc didn't work and I can't seem to update it past 10.6.2. I updated 10.6.0 to 10.6.1, then to 10.6.2 successfully, but updating to 10.6.3 caused it to stop booting. It just sits at the loading screen. Verbose mode doesn't output much and safe mode doesn't help.

I need to do some more reading. My wireless card arrived yesterday. I haven't had a chance to put it in and try it out. Maybe over spring break.

I got 10.6.6 working on my D630 using iBoot and MultiBeast. Finally my VGA out works too. The power management isn't quite right yet, and I still have to install my BCM wireless card, but it's going great so far.

Installed the new wireless card and it was immediately recognized by OSX as an airport card. Behold, my fully functional Macbook Pro (i.e. Dell D630c) running 10.6.6, which after getting the laptop for free 3 years ago, I got for a total of $52 (retail disc cost plus Dell 1505 wireless card price).
