Exclamation Possibly reliable way to reproduce Xid error 6 and 13

Mjello

I recently tried the new beta drivers 270.18 and 270.26 while browsing the website of a danish warehouse for a new TV. I managed to crash/hang X every time. I downgraded to 260.19.36 and the problem went away. So something in the new driver isn't quite agreeing with Firefox and this particular website.

To reproduce this error use Firefox to browse to this website and click on one of the manufacturer links (Sony, Samsung etc.). In my case X hangs using 100% CPU (with Xid error 6 followed by error 13 in the kernel log) every time.

I've attached bug reports for my system using driver 260.19.36 (where everything is fine), 270.26 before the hang and 270.26 after the hang (using SSH from another machine).

Using SSH I could log in and kill X and regain control of the machine.

Let me know if further information (than the bug report provides) is needed to reproduce the error.

Thanks in advance.

i got Xid messages for couples of releases already but i don't know how to replicate them.

in my case i can do it with mplayer and X hangs and it seems that it tries to change some modes because it flashes, I can ssh to my workstation and see that X is taking 100% processor and kill mplayer. after some seconds i can control the environment again.

Code:

Now that flash is using vdpau it would be nice to fix this bug because we will hit very often by it

Were you able to reproduce the error I got, by visiting that site in Firefox and clicking on one of the manufacturer links?

I don't reproduce with lastest stable nvidia driver to this date (260.19.36). on Fedora 14 x86_64 on D630 laptop.
I will try to reproduce with lastest beta driver tonight.

That been said, using each pictures weight about 1,5Mbit:
3 500px 2 500px (resized at 330px 236px).

Thank you for your reply.

I haven't been able to reproduce the error on latest stable either, but the new betas 270.xx causes the error every time. So there's some regression going on.

Hmmm... okies. Thanks to all that tried to reproduce. I guess that particular website just triggers some fault in my particular setup then.
