Default driver refresh issue with web browser video?

For some time I've been experiencing an issue where playing any type of video (flash/webm/etc) embedded in a web browser (have tried firefox, opera, konqueror...) will cause the video to show up in all windows at the location of the video instead of any untextured black color that would normally exist. For example, in a text editor where the background is black, the background after/while watching a youtube video will instead be the video.

The fact that this occurs regardless of browser and player leads me to believe that it is a driver issue. I am currently using version 270.18, though I have also experienced the issue with all of the 260 series releases.

Compiz ? Kwin ? compositors ?

what Flash version?

can you read http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and generate a good report with the debug info as instructed after the issue appears ?

Same issue, directly connected with "new" Flash 10.2.161.23_pre2010111 with "Stage video" (VDPAU). I think it's more Adobe issue, but I find it hard to track their bugs and get any response from dev team, so usualy only way to go with Adobe is wait for the next beta release.

I've been trying to get the issue to occur again, but it's pretty random. Sometimes I'll be able to go a week without the bug occurring, other times it'll happen on every video.

Using adobe flash 10.2.161.23_pre20101117. No compositor is active on my display.

you have 2 common things here:
1. nvidia driver
2. flash library

can you test with some other/older version of flash?

BTW, 32 or 64bit flash ?

32bit, though I have a 64bit machine with the same version of flash which works fine.

I'll test with some other versions, though as I said the problem is not always reproducible :/

I've got a me too on this one. It doesn't seem to be on all youtube videos, but if you find one
it was fairly reproducible.

I have encountered the issue on RHEL5_U6 (both x86 and x86_64) machines.
Both HP z200 hardware (latest BIOS 1.12) with Quadro NVS 295 video cards.
Video cards are running the latest firmware available from HP: 62:98:75:00:08

I noticed this recently after updating the flash-plugin to the newer 10.2 available
from Adobe. (flash-plugin 10.2.152.27-1.el5)
Observed on Nvidia driver: 260.19.29
Also observed on Nvidia driver: 260.19.36

I rolled back the NVIDIA driver to: 256.53 and as of yet have not been able to reproduce the issue.

Initially I observed video artifacts on a black background terminal. However have also been able
to reproduce on a white background terminal while moving the terminal on top of the playing
video.

I'm experiencing the same problem, this happen when Flash Player 10.2 use vdpau to decode videos. I'm using 260.19.36 drivers on a 32 bits Linux ( tried the beta too ). Flash Player 10.1 works fine ( no vdpau support ).

Looks like I'm having the same problem. I'm not using VDPAU though:
www-plugins/adobe-flash-10.2.152.27_p201011173-r1 USE="32bit 64bit (-multilib) -nspluginwrapper -vdpau"

One weird attribute about this though I've noticed - if you take a screenshot of what this looks like, the screenshot looks completely normal. Totally bizarre.

If you ctrl+alt+fX to a console, the artifacts go away.
