... Um, that looks like a good deal on a nice entry-level display. The main thing will be "how do your eyes enjoy it?"

If it's anything like the 3x LG LED monitors I'm running now, then you'll quite like it. Colour, Contrast and response is awesome, the backlighting is very nice and they're light as hell. Each one of mine weighs barely 2kg (under 1 pound).

12,000,000:1?? What is this world coming to???

Hey, I just bought two cool stereo speakers. 76,000,000 Watts PMPO (but 0.8 W RMS).

I never did understand that PMPO rating. What does it even stand for? Peak Maximum Power Output?

Exactly.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pmpo#PMPO
Quote:
The term PMPO has never been defined in any standard, but it is often taken to be the sum of some sort of peak power for each amplifier in a system. Different manufacturers use different definitions, so that the ratio of PMPO to continuous power output varies widely; it is not possible to convert from one to the other. The term PMPO is considered misleading and meaningless by audio professionals. Most amplifiers can sustain their PMPO for only a very short time; loudspeakers are not designed to withstand their stated PMPO for anything but a momentary peak without serious damage. There have been genuine attempts to measure "peak music power" as described below, but in general the term is not at all useful.
A somewhat similar situation happens with dynamic contrast:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic...trast_.28DC.29
Quote:
It is also common to market only the dynamic contrast ratio capability of a display (when it is better than its static contrast ratio), which should not be directly compared to the static contrast ratio. A plasma display with a static 5000:1 contrast ratio will show superior contrast to an LCD with 5000:1 dynamic and 1000:1 static contrast ratio when the input signal contains a full range of brightnesses from 0 to 100% simultaneously. They will, however, be on-par when input signal ranges only from 0 to 20% brightness.
Both are used for marketing simply because they are higher values. But anyway the PMPO is more meaningless and misleading.
