Hello everybody!
Trying lots of different solution, i finally managed to understand that the problem may come from the nvidia driver if i keep the compiz effects ON or with flash videos the percentage of cpu usage grows enourmously, causing lots of temporary freezes of the entire system (during which i can only move my mouse); something similare happens when using vlc, with the difference that sometimes it randomly goes to 100% with just one cpu (not always the same) and freezes the system for a short while, and of course this surely doesn't happen as often as it does with flash videos; about the vlc problem, the freeze doesn't happen always with the same frame of a video file, but randomly. all the above doesn't happen if i use the nouveu driver or if i turn the compiz effects off i'm using ubuntu 10.10 64bit (32bit gives the same problems), integrated nvidia geforce 6150se with official drivers (tried different versions of those driver, same effects). May i have any hint about how to proceed to solve the problem? thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english |

Hello lupccs,
- Please attach nvidia-bug-report by running `nvidia-bug-report.sh` as root - How does you are playing flash videos and with which web browser (version)? - Which version of Flash player plug-in you are using ? - compiz version ? - Let us know the system performance details for below combination's when playing flash videos : 1) nvidia driver + compiz ON = Does system freeze and cpu utilization ? 2) nvidia driver + compiz OFF = Does system freeze and cpu utilization? 3) nouveu driver + compiz ON = Does system freeze and cpu utilization? 4) nouveu driver + compiz OFF = Does system freeze and cpu utilization? |

the issue happens with chrome, firefox and opera as well, but with the latter it's slightly better. i had the problem with flash 10.2.152.27 using ndiswrapper and with the 64 bit version 10.2.152.27 , i didn't have the same problem with gnash but it only does play youtube videos i'm using compiz 0.8.6-0 about the combination: 1) all the issues mentioned above 2) none of the issues mentioned above 3) nuuveu doesn't support compiz 4) non of the issues mentioned above you should see in attachment my bug report thanks again! |

Hi There,
I've got a similar issue where my entire gnome is very slow (running with all compiz effects on), moving windows is like slow-motion - but can fix it myself temporarily by opening nvidia-settings, adding my laptop screen back as twinview with my ext. samsung 23'' screen, press apply and then remove it again, press apply and all is fine. Wondering if the nvidia tex know what happens when doing the above steps. My bug report is attached. running linux mint 10 (ubuntu 10.10 based), NVIDIA Driver Version: 260.19.44, Graphics Processor GeForce Go 6150 thanks in advanced! Thomas |
