The "junk" that comes with OS X (iMovie, Garageband, etc) is actually pretty awesome software; way better than Microsoft's offering IMO.
They don't include it because countries make up laws just for MS saying it's illegal. They then get a fine of some ungodly amount. Apple can look forward to that if their phones keep getting more popular.

Yeah that's how I remembered it.

I think it's free except for major updates no?

The iLife suite comes with any new Mac, but if you want to upgrade to the newest version, you do have to pay for it. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would want to pay for an upgrade every year, it's basically small additions and add-ons TBH. You are better off just sticking with it and get the new version when you get a new Mac.

As for MS, can't anybody just download the Movie Maker app or is that "illegal" too? Very interesting.

I think you aren't getting what we are trying to say. MS cannot bundle some apps due to anti monopoly laws. It's free and legal to have them available online free. They are silly laws as Apple can bundle and restrict what they wish. Yet MS has always allowed 3rd party installs and more. Don't get me wrong. I love my iPhone 4 it's a great bit of gear. It's just frustrating to see the way Apple can do one thing while MS gets strung up.

whats so hard to understand? when MS bundles their own software in their own OS they get sued. don't you remember the media player case? then then IE?

Apple should be treated the same way

Exactly but the laws seem to target MS specifically.

I thought iMovie came with the new ipad2 already but I couldn't find it anywhere on it. I went to the app store and found it... for $4.99 http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/imovie/id377298193?mt=8
I think it should be free like Microsoft's Movie Maker software.

Yeah. Why bundle so much then charge for something like iMovie? Licensing fees? Then again Apple has their own Quicktimes.

They even charge you for that Garageband thing. Who would pay for something like that?
