8200 IGP: restart X, lose HDMI sound

Each time I restart X (especially bad lately since driver feels so crashy with KDE4), I lose sound output through HDMI. I cannot seem to find ANYTHING that is related to this (logs, etc). Others have reported this problem on the Gentoo forums with the 8200 and other cards.

If I restart my computer, then I get sound back. So is there something I need to do keep sound between restarts of X?

Can you please provide an nvidia-bug-report.log generated when sound is working, and another generated when sound is not?

It would be interesting to see if any changes can be seen in /proc/asound between the two cases.
