Installing GF 210 on Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit)

Hey nV forum,
I wish to install drivers for my GeForce 210, on my Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit)
I have a fresh install (fully updated, latest kernel) installation of Ubuntu 10.10.

In the past, I have tried installing drivers, by simply OKing Ubuntu's offer for "additional proprietary drivers".
In all cases, this has led to a reboot to console-mode, with no graphical display.
Being less than an expert - for me, this means reinstalling the whole system

I really, really, really don't want to go through this whole process anew.
So I just wanted to make sure, that the following instructions, taken from your 'sticky' regarding Ubuntu install, still hold.
Before that, I'll just say that I have what I view as a strong and modern system:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA P55M-UD2
Processor: Intel i5 750 Quad-core, 2.66 GHz, 8MB
Memory: 2 x {Kingston KVR DDR3 1333MHz - 2GB}
Screen: Acer X233H 5Ms(GTG) 23'' (1920x1080)
nVidia GeForce 210 512MB

Please,
It's just doesn't make sense, there's no way making this kind of system work.
This hardware is as supported as it gets...

* development tools like make and gcc are installed
* the linux-headers package matching the installed Linux kernel is installed
* the pkg-config and xserver-xorg-dev packages are installed
* the nvidia-glx package has been uninstalled with the --purge option and the files /etc/init.d/nvidia-glx and /etc/init.d/nvidia-kernel do not exist

If you use Ubuntu, please also ensure that the linux-restricted-modules or linux-restricted-modules-common packages have been uninstalled. Alternatively, you can edit the /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules or /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common configuration file and disable the NVIDIA linux-restricted kernel modules (nvidia, nvidia_legacy) via:

DISABLED_MODULES="nv nvidia_new"

Additionally, delete the following file if it exists:

/lib/linux-restricted-modules/.nvidia_new_installed
