Default nvidia 4496 driver crashes with quadro 200/400NVS on Compaq SP700 2xPIII

Hello,
the nvidia 4496 and the 4363 driver crash with a nvidia quadro 200/400NVS on Compaq SP700 double processor system with 2 PIII 500 MHz when starting X-windows. The screen becomes white and the system immediately freezes. I also don't get any /var/log/XF86free.0.log (size 0).
The distribution used was SuSE 9.0.
Compilation and installation went OK
after the steps described in the nvidia/SuSE documents. nv driver works.

Both modules load OK with

Hello
just in case someone has the same problem and is interested
in kind of a solution (from nvidia support):

setting
Option "NVAGP" "0"
in the screen section of the XF86Config file
"solves" the problem. At least the crash,
but what is the price regarding performance?
Unknown !)
