I am currently running a MacPro with a Nvidia FX4000 graphics card. I am also running CentOS 4.7 on VirtualBox which is a Virtual Machine emulator. As VirtualBox is effectively a Type 2 Hypervisor and essentially virtualizes everything including the graphics card, is there a way to emulate the support for the Nvidia card as I have a Linux application which requires the presence of the card.

It is not possible. VirtualBox only supports it's own "GPU" on the guest. It does support 3D acceleration, but can not emulate a non-virtualbox GPU.
