-tsprobe works great, thank! So I think the rectangular blocks is problem of xine's implementation of vdpau, not vdpau itself.

Maybe I missed something (this thread is way too long), but is there any chance to get the modifications done for xine-vdpau into the "official" xine-lib-1.2 source code repository on Alioth?

have a look please on that sample
http://www.custler.ru/vdr/The_Rock_(1080p)-024.mkv

with xine-vdpau it's not possible to play this sample correctly - I don't see any video

xbmc + mplayer can play such sample

Does xine-vdpau expand video to monitor level (0-255) or does it keep it at studio level (16-235)?

I use Mythtv for all recorded ClearQAM HDTV and it's set for studio level. For DVD's and other video files I use xine-vdpau. If xine-vdpau is doing monitor level and that plays my calibration files (brightness / contrast test patterns) then I'll get crushed blacks when I then use mythtv.

Is there an option to tell xine-vdpau what to use?

Thanks,

Neil

Hi all,

VDPAU support has now been merged in xine-lib 1.2 branch.
We hope to provide a 1.2rc1 soon.

P.S.
1) VDPAU is not, and will not be, part of 1.1 because it's not ABI compatible.
2) In order for a frontend to work with 1.2, it only has to be recompiled against it.
3) vdpau_h264 has been reworked and is now more spec compliant, and also better handles streams that are not. In short, it should now work as good as ffmpeg.

Hi all,

I've worked on a new vdpau h264 decoder for xine-lib.1.2
It tries to fix some bugs of the original one.
Most streams should already work fine.

You can find it as a patch to be applied to current xine-lib.1.2 tree.
The patch creates the new decoder (vdpau_h264_alter) that has a default priority higher than the original one, so asa it's installed it will be used instead of the old one.

The patch can be downloaded from :

hello crisalide,

thanks a lot for your work on xinelib!

just a question concerning your new vdpau h264 decoder: is it essential to recompile applications against the patched xinelib, or is it sufficient just to recompile xinelib after applying your "alter_vdpau-2.diff" patch to get my applications using the new decoder?

greets, ciaccom

"make install" in src/video_dec/libvdpau is all what you need.
