hi,
Is there any way to load and apply a previously saved xorg.conf file in nvidia-settings via the command line? Not the nvidia-specific config file specified using the --config and --load-config-only, but something that would allow me to load settings for the X Server Display Configuration menu in the nvidia-settings GUI. I have a laptop and a docking station with dual monitors at work, when I dock I can manually bring up nvidia-settings, detect displays, apply the setting I want and get the monitors working. I'd like to automate this process as much as possible. I realize there are various ways of doing something similar by passing config options to X or gdm, but I'd like to apply the new settings without having to log out or restart X. |

There's a program called "disper" that does display configuration from the command line. You could give that a try.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.
