lol

I've so many customers complaining about how frequent the new versions of Windows are, and then I have to go and remind them that really this is nothing new. Gets old.

As much as I love 7, I'm looking forward to Windows 8.

No, not too young, but it just seemed like they didn't release so soon. Anyway it does sort of piss me off that it seems that I just got it. Oh well I guess I'll be getting it when it comes out....sigh I always do.

I hope they do push PC hardware properly. It would be a nice change.

As for the article in the OP, the author must be kind of young or new to PC gaming. I remember when there were 64MB TNT2's and Geforce 2 MX's that everyone bought thinking they'd be super fast because they were "64MB!!". Advertising the **** out of a big amount of VRAM on low end cards has been around for at least 10 years.

I remember the first Geforce, which was GeForce 256. I actually had the 2nd gen 3D card. I had a Voodoo 3D 8MB! I remember when my friend first got the very first Voodoo card. The Voodoo 3D 2MB card. He was playing Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. My friend started playing it after he installed the card and we were all underwhelmed. Then we looked in the settings and the 3D acceleration was off. He turned it on and our jaws dropped. It looked amazing!!! I just can't believe we've come so far!

Heck, I remember playing Wolfenstein 3D! I amazed all my friends with that game...and then came Doom. Doom is the one that really seemed catch everyone's attention!

Your system will run BF3 just fine my friend......as will mine. Long live the 5870...

I am really looking forward to BF3, its one of the reasons I upgraded my PC just recently. I am hoping my GTX580 will be able to run the game at max with 60fps but if not I will purchase another 580GTX in SLI or get a 680GTX. I am banking on 8gb and a 2600k being powerful enough for it. I could be wrong but I can't see the game making use of 16gb of RAM but if it does thats a fairly cheap upgrade, i could stick another 2x4gb modules in my rig and hoping they play nice together.

I have no doubt in my mind that your 580 and 8GB of RAM will run BF3 butter smooth! I'd say the most RAM it would take is 3GB of RAM, but we'll see.

If I were to upgrade today, that is what I'd get to upgrade, save the video card, which I'd get a 570....that too should run the game at max. It sucks that I can't upgrade now, but then again, since I have to wait for tax time next year, there will be faster components out....so...sucks now, but in the end....nice. At any rate, your system is a rocket so I'd have no worries!

I'm hoping you guys take all advice said in here with a grain of salt, the game is 1 year away nothing is set in stone as of yet. With that said, it was semi-confirmed that the 12min video every has seen was played on a single 580 and DICE has said that BF3 would support SLI/XFire efficiently (whatever that means).

It's only 6 months away until they release the game. It's gonna be released in November. That's not very far away. The game is gonna run fine with a 580 or a 570 for that matter. The system specs are actually pretty much set since it's gonna be released soon. They are just working out the bugs right now....the game is basically finished. The bug testing is the most tedious and takes the longest. I can't for this game....I already preordered it!

One thing I do want to upgrade is my storage, I want to get a solid state drive. I have a mate who has one and even though his PC is lower spec'd than mine it feels snappier!! I was amazed at how quick it made his system. I am wanting a 240gb SSD but I can only afford a 120gb model, so I am waiting for the prices of the 240gb SSD's to drop in price. Oh tax time, yeah in NZ the tax system is slighty different and well I never get money back if I do its not much. Maybe you could throw a system on your credit card? thats what i did and paid the card back before the interest kicked in.

I read somewhere that is when it is to be released. Sure the date could slip but I say it's gonna be this year. Even in the Faultline trailer, it says Fall 2011.
