Question change dpi with xrandr?

So I'm basically trying to change the DPI once xorg is already up and running, or at least have the nvidia driver change the dpi when I switch monitors.

The details are that I'm switching from the built-in display to an external display (not side by side, but turn off the laptop built in, and turn on the external). Both displays are the same resolution, but the built in has a much higher DPI, so when it switches, apps/text on the external monitor are huge. And according to xdpyinfo, xorg is still using the old monitors' physical size and dpi. I've tried setting it with `xrandr --dpi`, but it seems to completely ignore this.

Any ideas?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...y_Size_and_DPI see how to set a per display size ( since the DPI is calculated from the resolution and the display size )

This doesnt work when the external monitor can change. Its not always the same monitor that gets plugged in.
