I have the same problem with opengl applications, for example:
glxgears -geometry 1182x1181 works, but glxgears -geometry 1182x1182 doesn't (the window stays black) I use 2 crt monitors (2 screens on a display) and GeForce 7100 GS. Workarounds: Not use the other monitor (comment out the Screen 1 "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0" -line) or downgrade nvidia drivers to 260.19.44. |

It seems this problem has something to do with total amount of pixels on the screens. Normally I have 1600x1200 on both screens.
If I change the resolution the other screen to 1024x768 or less with xrandr, then opengl applications of 1600x1200 size are visible on the other screen. However, if the resolution of the other screen has 1280x1024 or more pixels then the problem persists. If you don't have time to fix this bug, would it take less of your time to update the 260-series to support recent kernels? |

I'm having the same problem when running GNOME Shell on a GeForce Go 6200 TurboCache.

The problem still persists in 275.21 and 280.04. This time I tried with 7100 GS, single monitor 1920x1200. Fullscreen opengl (glxgears) is black. When I reduce the size of the window enough, the gears appear and when enlarge back, black again.

You could barely make it to work if you disable COMPOSITE extension and don't use any desktop effects. I did it to open second screen on my one monitor in order to play movies seamless with VDPAU in 1920x1080 mode with desktop in 1920x1080 mode so it is possible to do.

This problem is not about running out of memory. (Unless the card really has 512 and the new driver misses half) As I wrote earlier on this thread, older driver works, new doesn't. I wasn't and am not using a compositing window manager. I tried the "Option "Composite" "Disable"" but it didn't change anything.
