omg cant believe I just figured this out, well maybe cause I just recently put a wireless adapter on my parents DVR. Just downloaded the DirecTV media share program on the PC and can now watch anything from the DVR on my computer! haha can even stream media from my PC to the DVR and watch on the HDTV. That part only works with some formats but found a program that converts on the fly. Anyways, good news to me, posted this in case anyone else wasnt aware of this functionality.

any clue on the bitrate? Can you change the amount of bandwidth?

Was playing around with a friend's slingbox the other day and it was pretty neat. I really like the onscreen remote so you can control the box as if you were there in the room. (Uses an IR blaster)

Guessing this is limited to recorded shows though...

If you have the whole home dvr setup all you need to do is download the directv2pc app on their website. You can only usemitmon pcs connectedmto you network.

The app has no real controls but the quality is awesome since it's just streaming from within your own network.

Yea I was thinking VPN.... but if you can't control the quality the stream might be too high to use remotely.

1. Have to have DVR connected to network through either an ethernet cable or an access point like a Wireless N Gaming Adapter

2. Download Directv2Pc software

They ask for your email and give you a code for 2 pc's to authorize

3. You should be ready to watch your DVR from your computer. To send data from your PC to dvr, a lot of people use a program called Tversity as it transcodes your shows on the fly into the right format to be read by your dvr. To access your content just go to Menu and you will see something called music, pictures, etc.

It seems people have trouble with the latest version so 1.7.4 works great, just tried it myself

I guess with the paid version you can even stream hulu and stuff to your dvr

I was watching HD recorded shows no problem both with a wireless adapter on the dvr, and Im on a wireless connection in the back of the house. Currently wireless G because my router doesnt have n.

You can pause, fast forward, etc. looks like the same dvr menu. Network says it maxes about 1.5MB/s, usually lower

If you use Tversity to stream from your pc to tv then you can adjust the bitrate to anything you want or have it auto adjust on the fly

Ouch... 1.5MB is 12mbits a second... Much higher than most uploads. I can definitely see that being correct for an HD stream though.

I got it going with a 50ft Ethernet cable. I think this is pretty slick. I really wish they would let you have all the channels to watch tv.

well if you click record on any show you can start watching it immediately on your computer. guess thats as close as it gets
