80C Not going to leave it with this permanently though, just going to do 3.8ghz I think. I just don't think 80C is safe to run long term. Reason it is this hot is because I run it inside of a closet, so the airflow isn't exactly ideal, but I'm just fine with it to be honest. Because it's in there, I am completely unable to hear the fans moving.

Actually it's coming from tiger direct.

EDIT: just checked the mail (it's coming via USPS) and it wasn't there, so probably won't be here til monday.

Have you tried removing it from the closet and just running lower speed fans? lol You might get better temps...

I don't really see any reason to, I am perfectly content with 3.8ghz, in fact originally I wasn't planning on overclocking at all. Besides, I don't have anywhere to put it. I designed my current setup with the idea of it being in there.

Oh nevermind the above edit, I slept in after I posted earlier and the mailman came and dropped it off, and somebody else got it while I was asleep, so it's here

Interesting boot times so far. From the second of hitting the power button, to being at the login screen, is 19 seconds. Keep in mind that includes the time for the video card to splash, the EFI to init, and then for windows to boot.

Windows itself boots in just under 7 seconds; in fact it hits the login screen before the little windows logo finishes its animation.

Ran into a BSOD once though, I'll have to investigate the cause of that.

Well I just witnessed first hand for the first time ever, that memtest doesn't detect all memory errors. Ran the latest version with 20 passes on that memory, and no errors. Yet prime95 was reporting errors. When prime95 reports errors, it could be anything: cpu, motherboard, memory. I replaced the CPU, replaced the motherboard, and none of those got rid of the problem, but I didn't replace the memory initially because memtest was reporting no problems. So finally I replaced the memory, and everything now seems golden.

But some good came out of all of this mess. I traded my p67a-c43 for a p67a-g45 open box for $50, and I returned the memory and re-purchased the exact same memory only with a different color heat spreader (the original one I got was sold out, so I couldn't do a direct exchange) for $55. That alone shaved off around $50 from my total costs.

And best of all, I have finally had a successful 24 hour burn in.

memtest really doesn't work at all any more. It's just better to try a few sticks 1 at a time if you suspect memory issues.

On a hunch, I thought I'd replace some of my system fans with something better, so I browsed through what Fry's electronics carries in terms of fans, and found these guys:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...nermax%20magma

I replaced the fan that comes with the H60 with one of these, and added a second one to the mix for a push/pull configuration on the radiator. In addition to that, I removed my scyth fan from the front and replaced it with a third fan. The work paid off, as I lost another 10C in system temps, even while the computer is in the closet.

I was impressed enough with the temperature change that I went ahead and bumped the clocks up. So far I am running stable at 4.3Ghz 1.275v at roughly 75C as an absolute worst case scenario. Not an ideal temp, but I'm quite comfortable with it.

I had a little fun while I was at it. Just for ****s and grins I overclocked it to 5ghz at 1.5v and thought I'd see what I could do with that. It managed to pass WEI, but only scored 7.8 (same score its at now) but it's far too unstable to leave with 24/7 (that and it gets way too hot while the door is closed)

I understand. When one reaches your age, it tends to take longer to get things done, and it gets harder to keep up with the younger people.
