Default NVidia Drivers /w Mandrake 9.2

Ok, I'm running: Mandrake 9.2 and have a Nvidia FX 5200 card.

I got the the 3 ISO's from the MDK site last week, so I'm assuming they're pretty up-to-date.

I downloaded the matching Kernel-Source checking versions with rpm -qa and uname -r.

I installed the Kernel Source, disabled X, rebooted to command line and then installed the Nvidia Drivers. The Drivers compiled and installed successfully.

I edited the XFree86-4 file, changing Driver "nv" to Driver "nvidia"

After doing so I exited and tried to run startx.
Doing so produced errors; the first of which stated that there was no I/O access to /dev/Nvidia0.

I have also attached the generated XFree86 Error Log. (In windows format)

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks in Advance,
Leben

Is it possible the new drivers do not yet support mandrake 9.2? I do not think the nForce drivers support 9.2, this could be the problem...

If there were no errors during install, and make sure kernel sources + headers are installed
I noticed:

ABI class: XFree86 Video Driver, version 0.6
(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
(==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888
(==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
(==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "NvAGP" "1" <-** put a # in front of this in XF86Config-4
(**) NVIDIA(0): Use of NVIDIA internal AGP requested
(--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xC0000000
(--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xCE000000
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

My understanding is if this option is not used, the driver will decide, you are forcing the use of
internal AGP. If using # also fails try: Option "NvAGP" "0"
or Option "NvAGP" "2"
I think "2" uses apgart, not sure I'm at work and don't have the docs....

Hope this helps.

edit: spelling

After you installed the NVidia drivers did you try running XFdrake to reconfigure the graphics settings?

Default Same problem

Same problem with Mdk 9.1 !
My feeling is it is impossible to install these drivers with the 100% free Mandrake distr. May be it is possible only with a Mandrake Pack.
I hope I am wrong, but for the moment I have no solution !
