I experience the same problems as well most of the time. But for me they occur when flash content would be playing on screen. So now I've commented out #EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 in /etc/adobe/mms.cfg and hope that will help, unfortunately this means it's running without hardware decoding on youtube etc. Knock on wood, no freezes. On the other hand your card would use a different VDPAU so perhaps no relation. |

Yes, you're probably right. I just installed the Flash-Aid addon and I'm pretty sure that it sett EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode to 1. It's sad that I can't play accelerated video in 2011 because of driver issues.

I have related problems to this bug report (i think) with a Gigabyte 560 TI card.
I am using Arch Linux with 2.6.39 kernel and propietary nvidia drivers 275.21. I can't get to card to fail doing extress tests but any specific actions freeze Xorg and i have to reboot, for example it is very easy to freeze the card with cairo-dock using opengl and subdocks in parabolic view, it's not the only way but get really easy to freeze this way. I have too problems with flash ghost images in a different desktop where the browser it is opened that get fixed if i disable hw acceleration in flash (to be fair i have tested this the last time in 275.19 version). Using in powermizer the "Prefer maximum Performance" helps somewhat (make more difficult to freeze) but not fix the problem. |

Hi All, here's my two cents for what it's worth.
I've been having what I believe is the same problem. GTX460, Ubuntu 11.04 Kernel 2.6.38-10 (64-bit), Sandybridge chipset. Random crashes (completely random as far as I can tell) were occurring on average every 3-6 hours, this was a hard crash requiring a hard reset, and when playing audio, this resulted in looping, sometimes distorted. A couple of days ago I removed the nvidia drivers, and reverted to the nouveau drivers. Since, I have had no problems for about 48 hours runtime! I have just upgraded my kernel to 3.0.0, and intend on testing this out, however there is currently a problem with nvidia binaries on 3.0.0. Apparently the latest nvidia drivers from xorg-edgers solves this. Will report back with results. |

Hi All,
I failed to get linux 3.0.0 + nvidia 175+ + ubuntu 11.04 combo to work. I instead gave up, and upgraded to 11.10. I installed the default nvidia drivers, and have now enjoyed over 16 hours of run-time (never happened before!). After some reading, I believe the 3.0.0 kernel was probably unnecessary, and I would recommend anyone else trying to solve this problem to upgrade to the 2.6.39 kernel and give that a shot. I can't recommend upgrading to 11.10 because it is way too buggy at the moment. Good luck! Lewis |

For me the problem seems to be fixed (or much more difficult to trigger) with the new nvidia drivers 280.13 version in the same 2.6.39 kernel, i will report here if the bug persists.

Still crashing with 280.13 driver on 3.0.3 kernel. It's actually not that hard to make it crash. Viewing a WebGL page in Firefox should do it. https://demoparty.mozillalabs.com/gallery/51/akemi

nVidia, do you need anything else from us to solve this problem? Is there a fix in the works?
Does the following dmesg help at all? Code:

I just updated to 2.6.39.3 from 2.6.38.7 and yes... the crashes are back
![]() I am on 275.19 for the nvidia drivers. I will probably revert to 2.6.38.7 which had 0 problems. |

Can someone from Nvidia please at least give us some kind of response? I noticed that Windows users are having issues as well. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nvidia+460+crash. Is there something wrong with the 460 hardware? Is it a driver issue? Is it a compatibility issue? Are you able to reproduce the problems? Should I be returning the card for a different one? Silence is the worst thing that you can do.
