According to HardOCP's review of the MSI Lightning Xtreme 3GB GTX 580, yes, but only in certain games and settings.

http://hardocp.com/article/2011/06/2..._card_review/3

Here in FEAR 3 they were able to enable 4X MSAA on 3GB GTX 580s with playable framerates while the vanilla GTX 580s only could do FXAA (a shader based AA method) at 2560x1600.

http://hardocp.com/article/2011/06/2...card_review/10

In Metro 2033 when they turned on 4X MSAA and Advanced DoF they were able to hit the VRAM limit on the vanilla 580, but the 3GB GTX 580 ran it at playable framerates.

However, with all the other games they tested, they were hard pressed to hit the VRAM limit on 1.5GB GTX 580s and also maintain playable framerates on the 3GB GTX 580s with the same settings at 2560x1600. So in most cases, 3GB is still useful only for multi-monitor gaming. Perhaps with some upcoming games like BF3 the 1.5GB limit will become more pronounced, but currently its only a handful of games that will have issues with a single monitor at 2560x1600 and high AA with only 1.5GB VRAM.

A little late but it's better than not getting one

Testing mode... PNY gtx 580 950/1900/2200 @1.15v

Thanks bob! Bumped the 2600K to 5.2ghz and the gtx 580 to 950/2300 @1.15v. I'm gonna put this on water soon!

Hopefully I don't break it first lol

Yeah, 1.4V seems to be maximum safe limit if you want the CPU to live for a while.

Lol it is very scary to look at but the max core temp was "only" 83c. Idles at 37c. :/

It is okay for short benchmarking sessions, but I wouldn't do that to 24/7.

Does CPU-Z still have issues reading core voltage on P67 boards? I know 1.58 has problems with my Z68 board, as it reads 1.05V, which is the QPI/VTT voltage. Also, according to CPU-Z my Intel HD3000 GPU has -1000MB VRAM and my GTX 580s each have -233MB. My actual core voltage is at 1.26V as read by Gigabyte's own TouchBIOS program.

At such high voltages and speeds, even if the temperature isn't as alarming, isn't electromigration still a problem?

What are you using for load on the CPU? Even though it's only at 83c, you're way outside the CPU's spec, and that extra juice will significantly decrease the CPU's lifespan. With that much voltage, I wouldn't be surprised if your CPU only lasted a few months.

@newparad1gm: CPU-Z works fine on my P67.

During the Vantage test that was the highest it recorded. Yep I know about the sb degradation. But having gone through 3 sandy bridge CPU's and this is my 3rd, I'm not too worried about cpu degradation. What I'm worried about is buying my next 2600K and it wouldn't go past 4.8ghz

Believe me I would been happy if I could make this stable @ 1.4 5200mhz but it's just a cpu that needs more juice than others. My long sold 2500K managed 5300mhz @1.512v benchmark stable.

Gigabyte boards have been known to get faulty CPUZ readings, other boards don't have those problems...

You got it for Christmas, but you're just now posting about it?

Also, I changed the title to just reflect the 500 series.
