Angry geforce fx 5600 ultra

Hey, has any one got this card working in Suse 9.0? I install this card and can get the glx gears to go 4200+. When I start up my games (UT2003,RTCW,etc..) the game freezes and looses pixelation. Checked out Suse's website and the GeforceFx 5600SE is supported. My XFree86config file starts up the 0x0311 device driver for nvidia. Please tell me this cards works with Suse 9.0! Help!

Thanks for any info!

Sincerley,

Stinky

Have you tried running the games with sound support turned off in the engine (rather than just volumes or sound qualities down)? Are you certain that the rendering is causing the game crash? Is the machine still working or does the crash cause other problems as well, does it recover and quit the game?

Could you post/attach the XFree86 log, /var/log/XFree86.0.log, and also your XF86Config?

Well I'm able to exit the game after it corrects itself. I was wondering if it might be caused by my power source. I am running a 300W power source. This card that I just installed needs a 4 point power connector. Maybe I should upgrade the power source? I have tried this same card in Win XP and I get the same results with all of my 3d games. It's also a 8X AGP card. I have a board that's only 4X AGP. Could that be the problem?

Tell me what you think! Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stinky

I see no problems with your config or log. Having the same issue across platforms however, suggests the hardware is to blame rather than drivers.

Your power supply should be adequate unless you're running multiple fans and harddrives, if so you may consider a bigger one. If either the PS or the mobo is much older than your video card it may be wearing out, the power supply you can have tested at a computer shop, or just grab a new one (good ones are worth the money).

You should get some sensors running in windows, or linux if you can figure them out, to keep an eye on internal temperatures, especially if you can get temps for the video card. Motherboard Monitor is a good utility, but there are many to choose from.

If available, swap out other hardware you have and continue testing.
