Default not enabling drivers?

Hello all:
I had a GeForce Ti 4200 but it got broken.

Now I got myself a GF FX 5200 256 MB

One problem though:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Disabled

cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 8x 4x
Registers: 0x1f000e1b:0x00000000

cat /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 |grep nvidia
Driver "nvidia"

lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: PF
nvidia 1630720 11 (autoclean)

Still because of the status being "Disabled"
i get the feeling it is not using my gf card.
What can i do ?

/me hopes to get help soon :-)

Did you check that status while X was running? It will display disabled until X loads.

Question

Hello!
Sorry to bother you, but I'm newbee (3 days on Linux, 10y lost on Gates)
I have the same problem (cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
- disabled)
but i don't know how to compile MTRR nor what it is.
One more question, in Blender (Opengl) cursor leaves smudges and artifacts, i 've tried to disable hwcursor and swcursor in xfree config but it doesn' help.
Also troubles with Konqueror on 4620b (can't close window, artifacts, etc.)

Knoppix 3.3 (Kernel 2.4.22 Xfree86 4.3.0)
Nvidia 4620beta (the same on 4096)
Gf Ti4200
ECS Sis 735
Athlon 1ghz tb

Thank you

Default kernel rebuild

to enable MTRR you need to recompile your kernel.
(which is like dos or winxp to windoze users)

Now this should not be hard BUT it can be different for each distros, so I suggested looking in the documentation re: rebuilding/recompiling your kernel.

When rebuilding the kernel you will be asked waht you want in it, you are currently missing the MTRR just select it.

Rebuild the kernel is a very scary the first time you do it but afterwards its a breeze

Are you running this off of a CD or is it installed on your harddrive? Running Knoppix from CD is a great tool for first experimenting with Linux, or taking Linux with you to another computer, however it is slow and much less featured than a full install. In particular, it requires more ram for doing normal things. Replacing the kernel won't do in this situation, too much work

I will recompile Kernel (2.6.0)with agpsupport and i'll see.
Do you have any ideas about opengl (nearness of mouse cursor isn't refreshed) problems?

Regarding the Blender issues, which version of Blender are you using? I don't really have any ideas how to fix it specifically, you have tried the biggest (hwcursor). Antialiasing must be turned off with blender, but the problems it causes make it unusable, not just cursor artifacts. Do you have any other openGL apps that cause the same effect?

In other opengl apps is the same problem. In X86config-4 i set shadowcursor but it doesn't work neither in KDE nor elsewhere. But now i've got AGP enabeled at least.
What about dri with nvidia?

DRI and nVidia don't mix. At all that I'm aware of. I suppose you could use the nVidia kernel AGP support, and DRI, but I don't know what the expected gain would be.
