you know, it is hard to open so big desktop and 3D applications with just 256MB of video memory... and if you using some composite desktop effect then it eats even more memory.

Strange but I did the same (created 'source' and 'build' symlinks in /lib/modules/{kernel_number}) and that didn't help

Ok, I gave up installing 3.0.x kernel branch. Actually I'm happy with 2.6.39.x for now
