Doesn't surprise me at all. I was thinking maybe they could have a smaller die part out in a couple of months but not their high end chips.

The reason of too much demand for HD6000 is obviously a smoke screen

We're on the same page here. Dropping a size is a big deal.

On the bright side they have a pretty strong lineup for the holiday season, especially giving the ongoing recession and their bang for buck pricing.

IMO, I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with die size, but the fact that Nv announced their cards won't be ready until...1q of 2012!

the new launch date may be correct but the article is absolute bull****....1 reason. They say AMD may be exagerating demand...blah blah blah

The reason that it's Bull**** has nothing to do with graphics....it's Bitcoin mining and you can hardly find a 6990 anywhere because of it.

They might be wrong at times, but that is the nature of the rumor mill.

Nope, if you read the article you linked you would see that they said the 6970 would launch in november, which is cayman. They also said that antilles which was actually the 6990 would launch in december, but it never launched till march. They also said the 6970 would be the top model, but that is actually the 6990. Same with Caymen, all wrong info. 99% of that article is wrong. lol

I just personally think that it's too much to ask to have new high end chips on a new process this year. They didn't jump right into high end with 40nm, and each process seems to be taking longer and longer to perfect.

I really hope we see something by the end of the year. It's tricky though, if they replace the 6900 series the die size will mean very few good chips, and if they replace 6800 series, the sheer numbers they will have to produce will be far too prohibitive.

NV are only in a worse situation assuming the transistor parity remains between them and AMD. NV saying Q1 is more likely Q2 to me, just as Q4 for AMD is more likely Q1. I'm sure both could paper launch in each promised quarter, but mass production seems unlikely.
