I'll just say i'm disappointed with DX:IW's performance . everything else in the game is cool ... the lights vs. shadowing ... the RPG elemnts .. the physics engine ... except the framerate!!
i tried the game on 2 systems & heres the results (with patch 1.1- all max - 1024x768): sys 1 : 9800XT , P4:3Ghz , 1GB RAM , 3.9 Cats. -as you may know the game cant run with both Multisampling & Bloom at same time enabled .. so if you enabled boom it will disable the AA automaticlly , but in the ATI case the game shows artifacts if both enabled . - 6x = 10-15fps ,4x = 25-30fps , 2x = 35-40fps ... so its only playable for me with 2x AA , 1024x768 . sys 2 :5950U , P4:2.4GHz , 512MB RAM , 53.03 FW. - i dont see those artifacts when both AA & Bloom enabled . - 4x =15-20fps , 3x =around 20 , 2x = around 25 fps . i decided to play it on sys 1 with 2xAA & disable the bloom .. its cool but it gives overbrighting & no AA though. |

Try this:
Right click the default.ini in the system folder of the game directory and un-check the read only option then open it with notepad and look for: [Engine.GameEngine] CacheSizeMegs= I'll probably have a 1 after the = sign. Change it to say: [Engine.GameEngine] CacheSizeMegs=32 Save and close that and then right click the DX2.exe (same dir) and click Properties.and click the Compatability tab. Put a check in the box that says, "Run this program in compatability mode for:" And change the drop down menu to say Windows 2000. Click apply and then ok and run the game. You will most likely see a nice performance boost.

Don't worry about changing it, it's just a comment, change it to 1 if you want to remember what it was set to.
A great tweak guide can be found here in the first post and many replies, but most of it is covered in the patch. Still good reference if you want to play and test though.
