why do they have version numbers at this point? They should just say, "Hey we have something new today!" and just provide a link, its all just a blur at this point...

Just tried the 6.0 final build on my MBP and I have to say that the application actually loads faster than the previous versions. "Page to page" speed isn't half bad either. Going to keep testing for a little bit.

Firefox 4.0 = Firefox 4
Firefox 5.0 = Firefox 4.1 Firefox 6.0 = Firefox 4.2 They moved away from . patches and when there are patches/features they just make it "appear" to be a new release. They all still look alike.

No, they are not copying Chrome. With Chrome you at least get some small feature added in every release. You only get new features with every three Firefox versions. It's retarded. If Chrome's extension library was more robust I would be all over it. I really want to like it, but there are a handful of quirks with regards to extensions that just kills it for me.
That and a godawful bookmark manager. Firefox at least gets that right. And those two things are enough to keep me around for now. |

I love Firefox and its extensions. Nothing beats noscript and adblock, but their memory management is ridiculous.
I often have many tabs and keep the browser open for weeks and my memory usage won't go significantly down until I restart it. I can have the browser with 4 tabs opened hogging 500MB+ of ram. If I restart it, I end up with less than 150MB (with the same tabs). This becomes aggravating when I need to start a VM (at work).

Mozilla firefox - simply called 'Firefox' for short - is basically a free Internet browser, the same in many ways as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera or Safari for example.
Following rapidly on the heels of Firefox 5.0, Firefox 6.0 is the most recent "major" release of Firefox, arriving in August 2011. However strictly speaking it is not a major release in terms of new features or any noticeable changes. The most significant changes in Firefox 6.0 include: The Site Identity Block next to the URL has been streamlined. Startup time has been reduced when using Panorama. A new per-site Permissions Manager interface accessible by typing about:Permissions in the address bar. Added support for the latest WebSockets, EventSource/server-sent events, window.matchMedia, and Scratchpad. The Web Developer menu under the Firefox button now has all development-related items.
