Wow, you don't consider that a huge problem? That would friggin drive me nuts (and apparently a lot of others on the Steam forum). Peeps aren't going to treat this game nice.

It took me a while to notice it. But it doesn't make the game completely unplayable. I say a patch can fix this issue, let's see what id does this week. I'll still play it regardless of this.

You're pretty forgiving of this game man. I'd notice something like that the first mouse turn. That's pretty bad. What's even worse is it repeats in the same locations when turning around, like it is complete streaming with no memory involved. It's pretty hard for me to believe that Carmack would think something like that would be acceptable to the PC gamers. Especially when PC gaming is his roots.

I already said I didn't have the game. I'm sitting back reading the comments, (mostly on the Steam forums) trying to decide if I am going to get it. It's not good is all I can say. I haven't seen a positive comment yet from people who are playing the game. At this rate, in another day, it's going to be Duke Nukem Forever all over again (I was on the other end of that one as I actually liked that game). When Carmack wakes up in the morning, he might want to go back to sleep after he does some reading about his game. And BTW, I'm a Carmack fan so I wanted the game to be good. Right now though I'm not really all that thrilled by some of the decisions he made on this game like the streaming textures and the taking away the game player's choices with the auto settings adjusting thing going on.

I have to say that video did a lot of damage to me. I don't like textures popping in at all in any game. Some are worse than others but most do it with the distant scenes are you are getting closer and most are subtle. I've never seen anything like in that video though, that's the worse I've ever seen. In there it wasn't distant textures, it was all textures, no matter how close. And it continues even going back over the same area. From that video you could sit in one place and go back and forth and it would be continuous streaming over and over. That's a game stopper for me. I just couldn't play a game with that going on continuously. That would have to be fixed before I would even consider getting this game.

Kinda of a cross between Fallout and Borderlands with prettier graphics.

Enjoyed the first 90 minutes or so of game play.

So the GPU transcode option or whatever it's called, doesn't help you guys?

I'm getting zero texture load in, but I am running it off an SSD if that makes any difference.

I'm running into problems already with this. Not the way I expected to start things out with this game.

Vsync - I have horrible tearing, almost unplayable and vsync enabled or disabled seems to make no difference, but I can't play it like this. I have a 120Hz monitor....not sure if that refresh rate has anything to do with it.

Some controls can't be mapped - this pisses me off It's 20freaking11 for gosh sakes and I can't map my 'enter' button for anything

One repeatable issue is if I use quickload, my framerate tanks into the low 20s and starts stuttering badly. I have to exit to main menu and get back in to make it playable again.

I didn't expect any issues with an Id Software game, not like this anyway.

EDIT: Refresh rate set to 60Hz didn't fix the screen tearing.

EDIT EDIT: Triple buffering fixed it.

Not very far in but it seems fun so far.

Some things I found poking around the console.

+set com_allowConsole 1 in Launch Commands for RAGE in Steam

g_showplayershadow 1 -> essential, not sure if it actually worked
image_anisotropy 16 -> essential!
image_usecompression 0 -> higher quality images, same as Ultra setting in DOOM 3. Not sure if it did anything.
r_forceaspectratio -> not needed as the resolution change does it.

pm_nobob -> turns off head bob and weapon sway

m_smooth 0 -> disables mouse smoothing

m_menu_sensitivity (locked) -> mouse acceleration in menu?
r_displayRefresh (locked) -> 120hz, 75hz, so on...
com_skipintrovideo (locked)

com_showfps -> what can your rig do?
