Thanks, I managed to reproduce the problem and I'll try to take a look at it soon.

I tracked the corruption down to a bug in the X server, and sent a fix out for review: http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-dev...er/025062.html

I have rebuilt the xserver with your patch and the graphical errors are gone.
But, the desktop is all other, than responsible. The Xorg-process is producing a high load at normal work on desktop.
There is no normal work possible and i will go back to xserver 1.10.4 for now.

Thank you for testing. Could you please run "perf record -a", use the desktop for a while to capture some profiling samples, hit Ctrl-C to stop recording, and then attach the result of "perf report" here?

Sure, here it is:

Would you like to see such log even from xserver 1.10.4?

@AaronP nvidia users reported high cpu usage in this driver, now after one month you released a new driver having the same issue. How long are we suppose to wait for a bug to be fixed?

The bug can be easy seen only by using the driver and any other major DE available out there. Is it me or QA is not done this days?

GTK apps are unusable, almost freezing. xchat is one example.

I think the acceleration path for 2d is broken with xorg 1.11.1

I'm afraid I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, so I can't speculate on when it might be fixed.

here is my perf report, 89.56% is used by nvidia_drv.so. the tarball contains the map for Xorg and I couldn't zoom in into nvidia_drv.so

I'm still experiencing the issues reported here, using version 285.05.09.

I've run nvidia-bug-report and perf, with the new drivers, on both versions of Xorg:
Version: 2:1.11.1-1
Version: 2:1.10.4-1

On the older one I'm not experiencing any problem at all. I'm on a Dell XPS M1530 running Debian Sid amd_64, using a GeForce 8600M GT.

Thank you, that's very helpful. I have a feeling I know what changed in the X server that made this slower.

I tracked this down to this commit to the X server:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xse...11eec3338fb969

It removed our ability to accelerate part of the trapezoid rendering process and forces the whole thing (even the part we can accelerate) to fall back to software on GPUs that do not support full trapezoid acceleration. I've started a discussion on the xorg-devel@lists.x.org mailing list to see how the X community wants to solve this problem:
