Carmack, like most devs, works more closely with the TWIMTBP team. ATi hads never had the funds to lend developers programmers and QA people like NVIDIA does, so their fixes are reactive rather than proactive.
I still say ATi's cards themselves are good, they just trail in the extras like physx, 3d, TWIMTBP.

Amazingly enough, the critics disagree with you NP. I like Rage, looks great at 57X10 and large textures on my rig.

I like RAGE, and 20 of the 28 reviews metacritic found did as well.

I like the deus ex universe better, both are good games, but different.
neither is a true RPG, but deus ex has more RPG elements.

The reason it has transcoding and works better on NV is that carmack originally had a raytracing server farm running on CUDA when it was all the rage to talk about CUDA and GPGPU. Later he found out it was such a PITA that he went back to x86 core farms. However, by that point they had the transcoding algorithm already done for their server farms and had been working the ins and outs of CUDA NV designs for over a year. Has nothing to do with "we worked better with too long acronym team." |
