I'm on my second play through. I have 30 hours on this. Two really good things about this game:
1. The animations and fluid reactions of the enemies. No other game has done this so well. 2. I like buying ammo. You can buy ammo for the guns you want to use instead of being forced to use whatever the enemy AI drops after you shoot them. You can buy 50 grenades if you want. In this second play through on Nightmare I'm trying out more things like turrets, sentries and my favorite dynamite arrows. On a negative note, the giant mutant was an awesome boss and so were the mini bosses leading up to him. You expected more but never got it. Even in the end you expected a big battle. It feels a little rushed and unfinished. I like it a lot but it could have been great.

So true, Rage is a great game in comparison. I bought DNF for $10 when it went on sale thinking people must be just following the leader complaining like people did with Rage, but nope it really is that bad.

Fun session tonight. Any PC player should start this game on nightmare. It's not that hard but it provides the proper level of challenge.

Rage is great fun. Probably my favorite game of the year so far, up there with Crysis 2. The only other game I can think of that has character animations that come close is Singularity, and watching how the the characters respond to I'm what doing in the world is a big part of the immersion for me. I love the way they take hits and transition from one animation to the next.

Though simple I really liked the game, and in its own way I thought it was a very visually stunning game. The unique texturing thing, despite the drawback in compression and lack of dynamic lighting, made for some interesting set pieces. No issues playing on my 570GTX.
Anyway has anyone else noticed that after playing this game going on to play other games (BF3 in my case) the textures in other games feel kinda flat? Not that the other games look bad, but I feel like the unique texturing of id Tech 5 is more realistic and at some subconscious level my brain finds it more believable. Could be the raytracing quality of the lighting too. It looked fantastic especially in the games two towns. I think the engine doesn't stand up well to nitpicking and screenshots as other games do, but when playing and moving around it was great. |
