Default New driver doesn't work with 9.10

Should the newest driver work with Ubutnu 9.10 (Kernel version 2.6.22) ? I have tried 280.19 version on a system with ION 2 GPU and running on Ubuntu 9.10 and it didn't work (nothing shows up after installing). The newer versions of Ubuntu have stability problems thus I need to keep using 9.10 or atmost 10.10 lts. Can you please help?

Whats the point of your response? Does it work for you with ION 2 , ubuntu 9.10 ? Work means X loads and the nvidia.ko loads and you see something on the screen.

When will people learn how to write an appropriate error report at last?...

What exactly did you expect to show up after installing? And yes, please generate a GOOD error report. Nvidia installer is equipped with it.

9.10 is very outdated and no longer maintained with important security updates. From my own experiences I can't believe that any newer Ubuntu would run anywhere more unstable.
