So, what new card will i need to purchase that will give me a big increase in performance over my currently installed 285GTX?
I want to spend as little as possible, thanks in advance.

GTX 570.
Sell your 285 to lower the cost and don't look back. EDIT: I still have my 480, but the 570 is close enough to it (a bit better actually) that I didn't bother upgrading. If I were buying today it would be the 570. |

Thanks Grey, i'm a little worried that the 570 only has a 320bit memory bus speed, 285 is 512bit, is the 570 that much faster that this becomes irrelevant?

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4051/n...-in-the-gaps/1 Also, if you're open to an ATI card, the 6970 (or 6950 for that matter) would give you a noticeable bump. The thing is...the 285 is still a powerhouse, so it obviously wouldn't be like going from an 8800GTS to a 570, but you would still be able to run at any rez with high (or max) settings with most games. EDIT: The only reason I haven't mentioned the 580, which would give you the biggest increase, is you mentioned the "b" word. ![]() I fully understand that....unfortunately ![]() |

Thanks again, you're spot on regarding the 285GTX being a "power house", seems the 570 stands in the same price/performance bracket as the 285 was at release.
£250 is my budget so i'll order it today. ATI will never grace my rig, i hate ATI ![]()

And you should be able to get a decent price for that 285 too. ![]() |

I had a GTX 480 running in my system, and believe it or not, but my 285 was faster in some scenerios than the 480.
In your case, i would wait for kepler, you are fine by now with that card.

Thanks for the advice walterman, indeed i have now decided to wait for kepler series to be released, my main concern was performance of the 285GTX in BF3, having installed BF3 i find the 285GTX performs really well so i am happy for now, thanks again.

Wait for Keplar or if your after a little extra power upto then find another GTX285 for SLI on the cheap. I'm in exactly the same predicament but i will wait for Keplar before i upgrade. BF3 is the only reason i want an upgrade to see it in all it's glory but it still runs well and looks good in DX10 as it is..

I jumped from a 285 (factory oc) to a 570 (factory oc) last month. The performance, did bump up about 10-15fps in most games. And having the DX11 features is nice.
