Arcania was fine with stability but Bethesda has a poor track record in patching their games and stability. They left Oblivion pretty broken with a ton of quest bugs.

Edit: Primary and secondary shadow size set to 4096 seems to do the trick.
Except they linked distance and quality, which means if you want distant shadows you end up with blocky shadows up close. There are some settings that help with this, but even tweaked as much as possible you either end up with a stunted shadow range or ugly shadows up close, you can't have both.

Like I said, it doesn't really kill the graphics for me, and if you are in first person most of the time you really don't notice it as much, but they did a poor job on them.

I love the game. It's very immersive. Out of the box, the game is far ahead of Oblivion ootb. Don't blame Bethesda for the fact that it's not far ENOUGH ahead. I don't think it's far enough ahead either. I blame consoles, cheapskates and the economy.

The OP did specify graphics OOTB. It's honestly about what I expected and maybe a bit more on the artistic side. I do appreciate it for what it is, a compromise.

We PC gamers are a jaded community. PC games are no longer as close to the bleeding edge as they used to be because of the bottom line. If the industry had the same mentality as it did years ago, Skyrim would be running at around 20-30 FPS at minimum settings on a GF 560. Max in game settings though, for the few of us with the hardware to run it would be amazing.

That said, I've bought every single TES game on release day, and I've enjoyed every single one. I look forward to the mods and to the next game in the TES series. It's all about perspective.

On a side note, the sound in this game has impressed the hell out of me. The last game that did that was BFBC2. I have a bigger investment in my sound system than in the rest of my system though.

So Sean_W said goodbye. In the four years that he's been here, has he ever made a post that wasn't bitching about something? Seriously that guy can't so much as wipe his ass without bitching about something.

Probably because he bundled cracked skyrim exe , not necessary for HD pack to work , as im running steam legit, without it. Just check later if you want it.

I was expecting good graphics. When I first saw them in the trailer, I thought it looked a little better than Oblivion. Now that I've played it, I can very confidently say that it looks A LOT BETTER than Oblivion. Some of you argue that the graphics are only a slight upgrade from Oblivion when it was released. I beg to differ. The depth of the textures (layers, effects, minute details) are far higher in most areas. Yes, there are a few areas where the textures could be better, but face it. Every game suffers from this. This isn't just a Skyrim issue.

The detail in and around the world is astounding. If you think the detail outside is great, wait until you see the caves and dungeons. That is where the magic has really happened. The dungeons in Skyrim are the most beautiful I've ever seen in an adventure game, period. No contest there.
