Guess you will need a tool like Paragon Partition Manager that can recover deleted partition. Happened to me once years ago when I formatted hard drive and realised I didnt backed up pictures and panicked the hard drive was wiped out. Partition Manager saved my day as it scanned and found partition table then found and backed up the pictures.
Windows won't even allow you to format c:, the format tool will complain about it being the system partition.

There was a time where you could rule with an iron fist....


I'm not so sure that I would just go through that folder deleting things on a whim, but if you do want to remove service pack backup files you can just run the desktop cleanup wizard.

I installed Win7 pro 64 SP1 and my winsxs folder is 6GB.
