Tested with Karmic with NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12. System Freezes at boot up and X does not start.
But we can switch VT using CTRL+ALT+F2 |

I am not sure if my suggestion would help you but it worked for me. After atleast 1 week of painless searching, a person in the Ubuntu forums suggested this and it works really good.
You can try disabling your hybrid graphics and integrated graphics from the BIOS menu and then restart your system. NVIDIA works flawlessly after this. AJ |

The same issue (blank screen) on G310M with brand new NVIDIA 260.19.06 drivers that come with Ubuntu 10.10. Actually the situation is much worse because providing EDID doesn't help.
I had to install 256.44 driver from ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li..._64-256.44.run and add the IgnoreABI option. BTW 256.44 doesn't work without providing EDID either. Looks like a serious regression from 256.44 to 260.19. |

I have the same problem. Does anyone have any creative solutions? I've been using the VESA driver, but its vague and not properly set the resolution. My laptop is HP envy series.
