Tested with Karmic with NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.12. System Freezes at boot up and X does not start.
But we can switch VT using CTRL+ALT+F2

I am not sure if my suggestion would help you but it worked for me. After atleast 1 week of painless searching, a person in the Ubuntu forums suggested this and it works really good.

You can try disabling your hybrid graphics and integrated graphics from the BIOS menu and then restart your system. NVIDIA works flawlessly after this.

Unhappy Re: G210m Blank Laptop Display

Having issues with a Sony VAIO VPCCW1FFX that has this card:
Code:

Code:

get-edid: get-edid version 2.0.0
mmap /dev/zero: Operation not permitted
get-edid: error initialising realmode interface

On every reboot I get the "purple screen of death", this is on a fully updated Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit using nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1.

Any tips?

The same issue (blank screen) on G310M with brand new NVIDIA 260.19.06 drivers that come with Ubuntu 10.10. Actually the situation is much worse because providing EDID doesn't help.
I had to install 256.44 driver from ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Li..._64-256.44.run and add the IgnoreABI option. BTW 256.44 doesn't work without providing EDID either. Looks like a serious regression from 256.44 to 260.19.

Angry Re: G210m Blank Laptop Display

Good Day, I am from Russia, and sorry for my english.
Before I had a acer laptop with a card from ATI and had no problems.
Recently bought a Lenovo B560 core i5 gf 310M and horror, I have three days can not run the X's: (
In the console, it works.
I have installed archlinux
i install nvidia-beta, nvidia-utils-beta (and just tried nvidia, nvidia-utils, tried to open the driver)

tried to run startx to launch xterm - the logs
PHP Code:
No devices found
indicated in the Device

PHP Code:
BusID "PCI: 2:0:0"

errors in the logs anymore, but there is a WW
PHP Code:
(WW) NVIDIA: Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0
search in Google ...
added to the xorg options

PHP Code:
Modeline "1366x768_50.00"
and using gtf Generate line Modeline to Monitor section
and added, ignoring EDID

PHP Code:
     Option "UseEDID" "False"

Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "True"

This error is gone, but the X's may not start, black screen.

error in the logs that it can not determine DPI
tried to run 'X' as follows:

PHP Code:
startx --DPI 96
errors are gone, but the X's are not run ((((

I have the same problem. Does anyone have any creative solutions? I've been using the VESA driver, but its vague and not properly set the resolution. My laptop is HP envy series.
