Linux is only an added cost when you withhold hardware specs from the community and then try to develop binary-only drivers. Because you want to hide part of your code, you have to play the eternal dance of keeping up with API changes, kernel patches, vendor kernels, etc etc etc. By withholding specs, you can't allow the community to do the work for you by writing and maintaing their own drivers.

If NVIDIA released full hardware specifications for the NV3x chipsets that could be implemented in the XFree86 nv driver, they would be - so fast it would make your head spin. It's only when the company wants to hide something that it becomes a pain.

Hello again fellow Linux users
Since I managed to install Red Hat + NIC (bought of course a new one , a Compaq with Intel chipset which is working perfectly) some new issues occured , for example when trying to reboot/shutdown the computer from Linux it returns [FAILED] to Shutting Down Canna Server (or something like that) with this following message approximately : Can not kill server because process is run by another machine..

What other machine ? It also takes the reboot sequence a bit longer to unsuccessfully close this process , does anyone know what this Canna Server is/means , can I disable it and how/where from , why is it taking so long and of course why does it fail to close...

Thank you in advance

Good! Make certain that you send feedback reports to the authors, especially if you successfully do heavy transfers with the NIC - it will help them debug and improve the driver.

Default forcedeth 0.20 is available

http://www.lib.uaa.alaska.edu/linux-...k-51/0166.html
http://www.hailfinger.org/carldani/l...hes/forcedeth/

This version of the driver fixes the bogus MAC address bug and the lockup under heavy load issue on nForce3 chipsets. More bugfixes are coming for the 0.21 version of the driver.

Don't thank me, thank the authors with a full hardware & behavior report. They're always looking for feedback.
