Hmmm. Worked in St Louis,MO today, nice 4G speed on my Droid, surfing the web many times faster than old school iphones.
Back home in Madison, WI area, more 4G, and still surfing the web faster than anything Apple.

Shoot'em if you like, but I'd never use a 3g phone by choice.

Maybe 3G works different between US and AU, but on a mobile device I don't notice the difference between 3G and 4G, it's both lightning quick. I can understand tethered on a laptop downloading something of Steam for example.

Here our 3G maxes out at roughly 20Mbps, 4G at 40Mbps, so I know the difference is there, just not anything a smartphone can make use of.
