my steam is currently 225gb with a little over 70 percent of the games installed .
if you dont have a backup , it will take quite a while reinstalling everything on a 28Mbit line
20Mbit connection here, my Steam games install to their own drive so if I wipe windows its not affected at all.

30MB/s here. I can get great speed from steam at off peak hours ... Ive actually seen steam downloading some of my games at 3.7MB/s many of times.

I've got about a 1Mbit connection. When's the last time you tried DL'ing almost 300GB @ ~400KB/s?

But that's what I do, install Steam to it's own drive. Don't need to re-download my games again that way.

sometimes when you do multiple downloads , and there's one finished , the program gets somekinda hickup while finishing the download , but dl still continues . then you might see a higher peakdownload which actually isnt one

I only ever download one game at a time. It typically bounces between 300KB/s and 400KB/s, peaking at around 500KB/s for a short blip. This is when I'm the only one in the house using the connection.

My steam dir is 95gb, so not that big and the non-steam dir is ~500gb and then theres another 100gb or so worth of ps1, ps2 and gamecube games i've ripped down as isos for use with emulators.
I still have all the consoles and games but have put them away as it just takes so much space.

Steam is pretty expensive compared to retail around here so unless its a really good sale on steam I usually just order my games online and pick them up later the same day down town.

This is my ultimate goal this year in regards to upgrading. I want to use my 64GB SSD as my boot drive with office and maybe my documents on it. Then another 300GB SSD for my pictures, music, downloads, and movies. And finally a 500 - 600GB SSD for Steam. Then I'm hoping to get three HDDs, two 2TB HDDs and one 3 or maybe even a 4TB HDD.

If that pans out is another story though.
