Thank You.

Took a quick shot of the innards.

If you look closely you can spot the 140mm fan I mounted on the back of the case to help exhaust air from the cards. Put it on there when I had three GTX580s. It works really well.

You can also spot the 4-pin molex connector I soldered to the motherboard to provide extra +12V PCI-E power. The Asus P9X79 Deluxe doesn't have one built onto the motherboard, so I had to put one on there myself.

Killed an AX1200 back in November. Bought another one and fixed it with this mod.

Did you even know about this problem before posting?

Not everybody is so willing to solder such an expensive piece of hardware. I think that's what Roadie was getting at.

I dunno, I'd sooner look to either return and exchange the board from where I bought it, or sell it off (likely at a loss) and buy another board without the problem than take a soldering iron to it. That was kinda' ballsy imo.

Then again I never did get into replacing, repairing, or relaying circuitry so maybe it's something you're accustumed to and I'm not.

Yes I know about it, I also know what causes it.

In the case you linked it's mostly due to crap 24 pin connectors on the evga boards. Poor connection between the connectors causes resistance, which causes heat, which causes a melted connector. The mod you did is only placing a band aid over the problem, not fixing it.

Also, how do you know the traces on the motherboard can handle the extra power you can possibly draw through them?

I've had 3 gpu's on my mobo for nearly a year running at 100% load with no signs of a melting connector.

Also, if you notice the wire gauge for the 24 pin on newer power supplies is much larger.

Really, it's your hardware to ruin, I don't really care. Not like your board has the risk of melting a 24 pin anyways.

I'll see how it goes long term. I don't think I'll have any problems. Had the same mod on my X58 board, an Asus P6X58D Premium. Didn't think I needed it for this new board, but I was wrong.

Any other flaws with this build that need pointing out? It's only human nature to focus on these things. I do it with other peoples builds

I mean, I have a freakin trackball for christ sake! Shame on me!
