Best Regards ,

You can't.

Even on Windows, Aero and display is ALWAYS done on the Intel card.

Hi,

Currently I don't have any nvidia packeges installed ... Should i install nvidia-current-updates ? And I'm pretty sure that the default nvidia repository wont give me the latest drivers !

Best Regards !

Plagman,

I also have the nvidia module vbios issue, but on a slightly different gpu/laptop. I have the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 which is the smaller model of the Y570. It has a GT550m (standard PCI ID) which in this case just seems to be an underclocked GT555m used in the Y570. I'll post a bug report here later today.

Here is the bug report. It was done with the 290.10 driver due to it being installed via dkms-nvidia and nvidia-utils-bumblebee from the AUR in Arch linux, but I don't think 295 changed anything about this bug as it has been the same for several versions now.

Key lines from the bug report (this error occurs just as the X server starts):
[ 302.229268] NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory.
[ 302.234269] NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0xffffffff:861)
[ 302.234280] NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed

Laptop: Lenovo Y470
GPU: GT 550M

The ACPI tables for Lenovo Ideapad Y570 (which are equal to the Y470) can be found at https://bugs.launchpad.net/lpbugrepo...PadY570.tar.gz (direct link)

Could an owner of those model please test the instructions at https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project...mment-3285349?

To a nvidia representative: are you retrieving the ROM using ACPI or another method?

The Bumblebee link is not found (404). If you are talking about ON/OFF ACPI calls for nvidia 0x0DEB they are \_SB.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._ON and \_SB.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._OFF.

The problem is the card is not supported in driver 290.10 and even it is supported in 295.09 it doesn't work:
[ 105.116085] NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory.
[ 105.120278] NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0xffffffff:858)
[ 105.120285] NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed

It may need modifing the vbios which is embedded in bios, i.e, need a bios update from lenovo.
Can anybody help us with that ?

The instructions at the link were actually for modifying and recompiling the nouveau kernel module. We discovered that when the correct acpi calls were hard coded into the driver it worked, so all nvidia has to do is fix how they are loading the vbios from acpi.

The repo has moved, https://github.com/Bumblebee-Project...omment-3285349

_ON and _OFF should not directly be used.
