Seems Nvidia might have bitten off more than they can chew in order to add specific hardware for fluid based physics within Kepler(????), thus delaying the release schedule coupled with AMD releasing their lineup this early in the year.....Is this turning into Fermi release 2.0 where they got it out much later on the market and with hardware disabled to boot, compared to Cypress(HD5870)?

ATI in a good spot right now, it appears (re: Shadow's link). I expect they'll sell a lot of the 7-series since Nvidia won't have their high end out until second half of the year.

Dedicated hardware for fluids would just be stupid.

They most likely did small change in hardware which allows them to do some things easier and thus it's better suitable for fluid computations than Fermi was.

IE. If they would put ARM core into GPU they would have ability to do decent single thread performance, but it wouldn't mean that they have dedicated hardware for an Angry Bird in the GPU.

Back on topic, none of these cards coming out have anything on my GeForceFX 5800U supercharged with the V12 dragster my local mechanic owns. He also got another 500 horsepower out of that card due to the awesome blower that came stock.

I remember some of the talk of Nvidia trying to get fluid on one of their previous cards. Heck, I can't even remember which one it was I've been out of the game for so long.

I'll tell you something. It's not easy trying to cram 2 years worth of missed PC knowledge into 3 days in a rush of excitement to build your new rig.

What's changed since I last built a PC:

- We stopped OC'ng the FSB
- We introduced FOUR new platforms (LGA 2011, LGA 1155, LGA 1156, AM3+)...
- We started seeing unlocked multis on non "Extreme Edition" Intel chips
- Quad channel RAM
- Nvidia introduced their own "Eyefinity"
- AMD introduced their GPGPU
- AMD released the most disappointing CPU since Pentium Net Burst.. while setting new records for power draw for a processor.. and caused blackouts all over the world at the start of Q4 2011.. with the Bulldozer (560w under OC'd load!!!)
- Intel refreshed the i7
- Nvidia refreshed Fermi
- ATI introduced Cayman and ditches VLIW-4
- ATI introduced Southern Island and ditches VLIW
- We saw the first APU (AMD Fusion) introduced to the market
- We saw ATI finally take the high-end single GPU performance crown back after a hiatus since the 1900XT

Yeah, I really don't like what they've done with Sandy Bridge. I was all excited about putting this new rig together on the 1155 platform until I found out that Ivy Bridge, although it's backwards compatible, won't have six cores.



Intel's made things far too complex with all these new platforms. I can't remember a time when they had four platforms out all at once (LGA1336, 1155, 1156, 2011). It's been maddening to try and figure out just what they've done since I last built a PC.

I hate AMD dropped the ball with Bulldozer. I was looking forward to having an 8-core CPU in my new rig at an affordable price. I usually try to implement some sort of breakthrough tech in each one of my builds. BD's definitely not it.

Let us pray that we can find a way to get more out of future cards by closing certain circuits with our spooge.

What's so 'woa' about charlie trying to play down what he said in the previous article? He got false info from paid nv shills on a chinese forum and now he's changing the ballpark, comparing GK104 to Pitcairn (7800 series) saying it will beat it in every way. If the price is right that's still a great win for Nvidia, but it doesn't sound like it will be a threat to Tahiti...
