On an Ubuntu 11.04 system, how do i force-uninstall ...
"Linux Display Driver - x86 , Version: 71.86.15 Certified, Release Date: 2011.08.17, Operating System: Linux, Language: English (U.S.), File Size: 10.8 MB" ...when sudo nvidia-installer --uninstall returns "There is no NVIDIA driver currently installed."... ...YET... in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log , it says... [ 1524.093] (II) Loading extension DOUBLE-BUFFER [ 1524.093] (II) LoadModule: "glx" [ 1524.093] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/libglx.so [ 1524.874] (II) Module glx: vendor="NVIDIA Corporation" [ 1524.874] compiled for 4.0.2, module version = 1.0.0 [ 1524.874] Module class: X.Org Server Extension [ 1524.874] (II) NVIDIA GLX Module 173.14.30 Thu Apr 14 09:20:02 PDT 2011 [ 1524.874] (II) Loading extension GLX and... " [ 1525.180] (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)" ...as though it were trying to load nvidia stuffs... ?? ...so i need to run the ati radeon 7500 on this machine. Why won't the uninstaller do it's job? How can i manually put this back together to the state it was in before the nvidia-installer got hold of it? =) what will i have to re-install through synaptic, or apt-get, or Ubuntu Software Center to fix this... i need the opengl functions of the ati radeon 7500 to work... and as far as i can tell the nvidia stuff is 'breaking it' please help ![]() |

Why do you mess around with video drivers from nVidia when your video card is made by ATI/AMD ?
Uninstall all the nVidia related stuff and read this: https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers/ |

nvidia-installer can uninstall the driver if it was installed with nvidia-installer, but it doesn't appear to be the case here. The name of the restricted drivers manager is "jockey" - you can try using that to uninstall; otherwise, just look for nvidia-related packages through apt and uninstall them. |
